Narrative: blog task

 1) Give an example from film or television that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium. Avengers assemble (2012) 


2) Complete the activity on page 1 of the Factsheet: find a clip on YouTube of the opening of a new TV drama series (season 1, episode 1). Embed the clip in your blog and write an analysis of the narrative markers that help establish setting, character and plot.

This scene plays a critical role in establishing the setting, character dynamics, and overall plot for the series the wide shot of The burning city and destruction in the background emphasize a world where conflict and violence are prevalent, setting the tone for future struggles the characters will face. Then we witness the origin of the character Naruto as we see the creature is sealed within Naruto as a baby, marking him from birth with an extraordinary yet cursed power. This foreshadows the challenges Naruto will face, both this already creates tension and understanding  of the of the origin story of the character. The village also show the historical  time period  that  it's set in being a nomadic environment.

5) What example is provided in the Factsheet for the way narratives can emphasize dominant ideologies and values?

6) Why do enigma and action codes (Barthes) offer gratifications for audiences?
They both cause the audience to feel something e.g  Enigma codes  create questions for the audience to have and  build tension. 

7) Write a one-sentence summary of the four different types of TV narrative:
  • Episodic narrative (the series)
 stories within each episode 
  • Overarching narrative (the serial)
Overarching stories across  the episodes and tv show.
  • Mixed narrative
episodic and overarching narrative 
  • Multi-strand overlapping narrative (soap narrative)
multiple storylines over seasons and Series .
8) How does the Factsheet suggest adverts use narrative?   Advert usually  Todorov's equilibrium theory for there adverts for example Snickers someone  is doing something (equilibrium) they are stressed say they want a break (disequilibrium) they eat a snickers  and  are relaxed again (new equilibrium)
